Frequently Asked Questions
The Internship Program is a career opportunity where the National Society of Leadership and Success hires you to begin a chapter of the NSLS, or Sigma Alpha Pi, on your campus. As a starter of your own NSLS chapter, you will be in charge of recruiting a faculty advisor, appointing your executive board, and handling the management and budget for the chapter. Once the chapter is established, you will be serving as the President, so you will be leading the events with your board and advisor. The NSLS is the nation's largest leadership honor society. Students are selected by their college for membership based on either academic standing or leadership potential. Candidacy is a nationally recognized achievement of honorable distinction. With 706 chapters, the NSLS currently has 1,190,889 members nationwide.
In addition to honorable distinction, the NSLS provides a step-by-step program for members to build their leadership skills through participation at their campus or online. Upon completion of the program, members receive their leadership certificate and take their place among the top student leaders at their campus and across the country. Members are able to list their affiliation on all statements of personal accomplishment, including their resume.
Membership is for life and provides access to benefits including scholarships and awards, exclusive on-campus events, employer recruitment through an online job bank, and discounts on computers, textbooks, grad school prep courses, insurance and much more.

Only one student will be selected on each campus.
We do not have a hard deadline to submit applications, but we do hire on a rolling basis. This means that once we find a great candidate, we will extend an offer. Please make every attempt to fill out your application as soon as possible if you are truly interested.
You may submit your application without references, but if you are selected for a phone interview, you will need to have references by the time of the interview. References are not required but highly recommended.
Because this is an on campus internship, you cannot do this internship abroad.
We do not work with the schools to hire interns so we will not be notifying them if an intern is hired at the school. One of your responsibilities as an intern will be to register the group as an official on campus organization or seek department sponsorship.
While there might be similarities between Sigma Alpha Pi and other honor organizations and leadership programs on your campus, there are also differences. Sigma Alpha Pi is inclusive, meaning any student can join regardless of GPA. Students with certain GPAs will receive invitations in the mail, but students who do not receive this invitation will still be able to apply by using our nomination form. This form requires the student to obtain two faculty signatures who can attest that the student would benefit from this program. Additionally, with our Leadership Training Day and Success Networking Teams, there are many things that make the NSLS unique. Although there may be similarities, this is not meant to serve as competition to any other club or program on campus, and many of our chapters collaborate with other leadership programs and groups on different projects and events.

No! This is a paid internship, so we are paying you!
- No, interns have the right to forfeit or donate the stipend directly to support the chapter if he or she chooses.
- The NSLS provides a stipend to adhere to minimum wage laws in many states as well as ensure that a diverse group of students have this opportunity, especially those with low or no income.
- The majority of schools bring the NSLS’s leadership program to campus through an administrator, not through a student. When they do bring a chapter on campus via a student, they are extremely selective. On average, only 6% of applicants are chosen. Establishing a chapter on campus will provide the intern with the opportunity to help students on the campus, help the intern develop personally and professionally, and allow the intern to lead a team to develop his or her leadership skills.
