k_harkinParticipating in The National Society of Leadership and Success has taught me many things. I have learned the power of goal setting through the use of Success Networking Teams. In the past, I would set a goal after listening to a speaker. I would leave the presentation ready to change the world, but by the next day I had either forgotten or lost focus on my goal. The NSLS has taught me how to set realistic goals; with the help of my peers, I have been able to get ideas from their input and have friends who help me stay focused. Our SNT group has developed a strong bond and I now feel obligated to accomplish my goals not only for myself, but also because I promised my peers that I would do my best!

The NSLS has also helped me discover what I want. I have always been confident that I can accomplish whatever I set my mind to. But for the first time in my life, I wasn't sure what I wanted. I was offered a Graduate Assistantship to continue at Purdue Calumet for my Master's Degree in Communication. I did not know what to do. I almost wanted someone to tell me what I should do so I could set my goal on that objective. The speakers and my peers have helped me discover what it is I really want. This is something I could not have accomplished without the help of my advisor and peers! I am now confident that Graduate School is the right choice for me and I am thankful I have the NSLS members who helped me figure that out. I accomplished many short-term goals and am progressing towards long-term goals that, with the NSLS, have helped me to stay focused as I am coming to the end of my undergraduate career. I am very thankful that I have had the opportunity to experience this intense format of goal setting and feeling of accomplishment when I succeed!
