LETTER FROM THE CEO
Hi NSLS Family,
April is Internship Awareness Month and we’re excited to use this opportunity to emphasize the importance of internships. They give you a real-world understanding of your industry and set you up for future career success. Whether you’re working for credit or taking on a part-time job between classes, there’s huge value in gaining practical experience outside the classroom.
It’s never too early to get a head start on your internship search, and your school likely has a job board with internship listings and news about upcoming career fairs. You can also explore industry-specific internship sites, especially LinkedIn. If there’s a company you admire, use the platform to reach out. Most employers are highly impressed by the initiative.
When you’re interning, make sure you take full advantage of the experience. Network with everyone because you never know when a connection could help you land your next role. My advice is to treat your internship with the same dedication and seriousness as a full-time position.
By paying attention to small details and being proactive with projects, you’ll stand out to your manager. They’ll see you as a leader, making you a prime candidate for potential full-time opportunities.
Taking on an internship during college also gives you a glimpse at what your post-grad life could look like. Plus, you’ll gain experience that'll boost your resume. And who knows? You just might find the keys to unlock your full potential.

The NSLS Foundation
In 2013, NSLS member Hannah Hoobyar from Capella University began Project Bear Hugs. Its mission is to bring comfort to children and families after they’ve suffered loss from natural disasters.
The inspiration came after she collected and delivered over 2,800 stuffed animals to children affected by Oklahoma tornadoes. Since then, Project Bear Hugs has distributed donations and stuffed animals to disaster survivors across the country.
Hannah’s other initiatives include organizing “A Day of Fun and Laughter” local events, as well as charity concerts. She’s also developing a school shooting relief program. She’s working on several partnerships for Project Bear Hugs, which means there are plenty of opportunities to join her team.
Get involved by applying to be an intern.
