What is Sigma Alpha Pi?

Founded with a passion for building leaders who make a better world, Sigma Alpha Pi — primarily known as the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) — is the nation’s largest leadership honor society. The Greek letters of Sigma Alpha Pi (ΣAπ) stand for Success, Action and Purpose — Success coming from continual Action towards one’s Purpose. While Sigma Alpha Pi (NSLS) uses Greek letters to represent itself, it’s not affiliated with Greek life.

Get Involved

How to Become a Member of Sigma Alpha Pi

Students are typically selected by their schools based on their academic standing and leadership potential. If you’ve been nominated, you simply need to enter your nomination code presented in your invitation and begin the registration process. If you have not been nominated but would like to be, you can apply online to become a member of Sigma Alpha Pi (NSLS).

Once you have paid the registration fee, you are considered a member (also known as a pre-inducted member) with access to certain benefits. To become an inducted member and have full access to the program’s benefits, you must complete these steps: 

  1. Orientation 
  2. Leadership Training Day
  3. Three Speaker Broadcast Events
  4. Three Success Networking Team Meetings 

After completing these steps, you will be invited to an induction ceremony where you will receive your certification. Typically, it takes students 12 hours across one semester to meet the induction criteria. 

Sigma Alpha Pi has over 700 chapters and over 1.4 million members nationwide. If your school doesn’t have a chapter, you can start one yourself through our internship program or become a member of our online chapter.

NSLS stands for the National Society of Leadership and Success, which is the name that Sigma Alpha Pi primarily goes by.

Sigma Alpha Pi (ΣAπ) are the Greek letters that the NSLS uses to represent itself, which stand for Success, Action and Purpose.

Sigma Alpha Pi (NSLS) is the only accredited leadership honor society in the nation. We offer a wide range of benefits including skills development, networking events, and more designed to help you with future employment opportunities. Our program, benefits, and resources are used by members voluntarily, at their own leisure — the more engaged you are in the program, the more you benefit from your membership.

Inducted members who are engaged in the program will have access to a wide range of exclusive benefits including leadership skill development, scholarships and awards, customized letters of recommendation, an exclusive job bank, networking events, special discounts, and more. These benefits are designed to give you a competitive edge with future employment opportunities.

Inducted members can choose to wear Sigma Alpha Pi (NSLS) regalia including a stole, cords, medallion, and more to represent their achievement at graduation. After your induction, you’ll continually benefit from the skills and knowledge you’ve gained from the program. You’ll also have access to the

Sigma Alpha Pi is not affiliated or associated with a sorority, fraternity, or Greek life in general. As a leadership honor society, Sigma Alpha Pi focuses on the professional and career development of our students.

To join Sigma Alpha Pi (NSLS), members are either nominated by their school or can apply to become a member online. Members are selected based on their GPA and/or leadership potential. Along with these factors, those who apply to become a member must also be recommended by at least one faculty member.

Sigma Alpha Pi (NSLS) requires a one-time $95 registration fee, which covers all membership benefits, which don’t expire or need renewing. Upon payment, you are considered a pre-inducted member and have limited access to the program’s benefits. To become an inducted member and leverage the program’s full benefits, you must meet our induction criteria.

Currently, there are over 1.4 million Sigma Alpha Pi members nationwide. The number of students invited varies each semester and is determined by each chapter according to the set requirements.

Yes, you can apply for membership online to join your school’s chapter. If your school doesn’t have a chapter, you can become a member of our National Online Chapter. You can also start a chapter at your school through participating in our internship program.  See the question “What are the requirements to join?” above for more information.
