LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Member,
The July 4th holiday is almost here, and we've come a long way since a year ago when the global health crisis required us to cancel plans for BBQs and events. As America continues to reopen, many of us will be coming together, in-person, for fun get-togethers once again to commemorate our nation's birthday.
During the July 4th holiday weekend, it's essential to keep in mind that the holiday is about so much more than just beach days and grilling; it symbolizes a country founded on precious freedom and democracy as written by our founding fathers in the Declaration of Independence:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness."
The NSLS stands by such values, and we pride ourselves on fostering a welcoming community of diversity and inclusion. That is the true spirit of the July 4th holiday, and we encourage everyone to celebrate the differences between us as a way to bring us closer together — all year round.
Of course, July 4th is the most highly-anticipated holiday of the summer season, so however you choose to celebrate, have fun and be safe.
